How to Promote your Crypto Project with Telegram Ads: 6 Easy Steps

Telegram has become the go-to platform for crypto projects, SaaS businesses, and Web3 communities aiming to drive sales. But running ads on Telegram isn’t as simple as setting a budget and waiting for results. Many projects waste money on ineffective ads that don’t convert.

So, how can you make Telegram ads work for you? In this guide, I’ll walk you through the critical steps to skyrocket your sales with Telegram — using a real example from one of my clients.

Quick Introduction: Hi! I’m Maria. I help businesses grow on Telegram, including optimizing and scaling Telegram channels. You can find all my services at tgcourse.com. In 2024, even The New York Times interviewed me about my expertise.

Let’s start!

Problem: telegram ads aren’t working as expected

A few weeks ago, a crypto entrepreneur approached me with a challenge.

- He had recently launched his crypto app targeting traders and was eager to grow his business using Telegram.

- He created a Telegram channel and invested in Telegram Ads.

- However, despite his efforts, he wasn’t seeing the results he expected. How to promote Crypto with Telegram ads

After analyzing his channel and Telegram ads, I identified a series of key issues that crypto businesses frequently face when promoting on Telegram. If you’re running ads or trying to grow your community, you might be making the same mistakes. Here’s what I discovered — and how I helped him turn things around.

Step 1: Analyze Your Current Ads — Are They Delivering Results?

Before scaling your campaign, you need to evaluate what’s working, what’s not, and why.

My client’s advertising campaign wasn’t bringing in subscribers, so they weren’t converting them into paying clients.

When I analyzed my client’s ad performance, I found the root cause of why his ads weren’t performing well:

❌ The client had only launched few ads, and the views were increasing very slowly because are high competition in target channels. This number of ads was insufficient given their goal and budget.

❌ I also identified other issues and areas for improvement, some of which I’ll share later in this article.

Step 2: Develop a Clear Telegram Advertising Strategy for Your Crypto Project

I created a clear, customized strategy for promoting his business through Telegram ads, focusing on systematic testing, optimization, and budget efficiency.

Here’s a brief overview of some parts of the strategy I created — in reality, the client received a comprehensive, in-depth plan covering every detail of their Telegram ad campaign, complete with examples.

The key points of strategy for my client:

✔ Run more ads to identify what works instead of relying on just a few. Based on the client’s budget and goals, I calculated that they needed to create 100 ad campaigns for testing, following the principle: 1 ad = 1 target channel.

Test different Telegram channels with a lower CPM, starting at 0.1 TON per 1,000 views. Increase CPM only when absolutely necessary.

✔ Wait until an ad reaches 1,000 views before deciding whether to turn it off or continue running it. 1,000 views are enough to determine whether an ad is effective or not. I also defined specific metrics for determining whether an ad was considered effective or not.

As ineffective ads are turned off, continuously create new ads to test. This includes testing different channels and refining the ad copy to improve performance.

Step 3: Craft High-Performing Ad Copy

Your ad copy is the first impression potential subscribers will get about your project. If your ad isn’t compelling, even the best targeting won’t help.

Some common mistakes include:

❌ Generic, uninspiring text that doesn’t highlight the project’s value.

❌ Uniform ads are everywhere, which reduces the attention of potential subscribers. Repetitive advertising no longer grabs their interest, leading to ad fatigue or banner blindness.

❌ Lack of a clear call to action (CTA), leaving users unsure about the next step.

❌ Overpromising results, which can cause moderation issues.

Bad Ad Copy (Ineffective or Problematic Examples):

  1. Overpromising / Misleading Claims (Likely to Fail Telegram Moderation)
🚫 “Buy Bitcoin & SOL and double your money in a week! 🚀”
( Unrealistic claims, violates advertising policies)

  1. Vague & Weak Value Proposition
🚫 “Crypto.com is great for buying Bitcoin & SOL. Try it now!”
(Doesn’t explain why it’s good, lacks a compelling reason to click)

  1. Too Technical for a General Audience
🚫 “Trade BTC & SOL with deep liquidity, advanced charting, and institutional-grade execution on Crypto.com.”
(Confusing for beginners, lacks emotional appeal)

  1. Passive & Lacks CTA (Call-to-Action)
🚫 “Crypto.com is a platform for buying and trading Bitcoin & SOL.”
(No urgency, no clear CTA, doesn’t drive action)

  1. Cluttered & Hard to Read
🚫 “Want to buy crypto? Bitcoin, SOL, and 250+ coins are available. Low fees, instant transactions, top security, seamless UI. Join now!”
(Too much information in one sentence, overwhelming)

✅ Fix:

✔ Use short, engaging copy that directly addresses your audience’s pain points.

✔ Include a strong CTA that encourages users to take action.

✔ Use different ad copy for different types of channels and audiences.

✔ To improve ad performance, test multiple variations of ad copy within the same channel — for example, create 2–3 ads with different messaging for a single channel. You don’t know what will perform best until you test different variations.

✔ Avoid exaggerated claims that may violate Telegram’s ad policies. If your ads were declined, read this post.

For my clients, I create multiple ad variations tailored to their audience’s pain points, which are then tested to determine the most effective approach.

Step 4: Select the Right Telegram Channels for Ads

Choosing the right Telegram channels to advertise on is just as important as the ad itself.

Some common mistakes include:

Targeting too many telegram channels in one ad. If you include multiple Telegram channels in one ad, you won’t know which ones perform well and which don’t. This leads to inefficient spending and wasted budget.

❌ Testing only large channels with high competition and getting very slow or zero views as a result.

❌ Testing only one type of channel, or conversely, test random types of channels that do not have your target audience.

✅ Fix:

Test not only large channels but also multiple smaller, niche channelswhere competition is lower but engagement is higher.

Focus on channels where your ideal audience is already active. Try different types of channels (for example, for crypto-related content, don’t just test crypto channels — also explore other niches where people might be interested in crypto, such as tech channels and other).

Follow this rule when setting up ads: one ad should target one channel. This will help you track the performance of each channel more accurately. If you include multiple channels in one ad, some might bring good results while others don’t, making it hard to understand which channels work best.

Step 5: Optimize Your Telegram Channel for Conversions

Even the best Telegram ads won’t work if your channel isn’t optimized. A weak channel can cause potential subscribers to leave before they ever engage with your content.

Some common mistakes:

Lack of clear and understandable content. Subscribers don’t fully understand what they’re getting into when they visit the channel.

Poor visual presentation. F.e. Images in posts are often formatted incorrectly, causing them to be cut off on different devices.

Lack of clear calls to action in posts. People don’t understand what they’re supposed to do.

✅ Fix:

Use a strong welcome post that explains what new subscribers will get from your channel.

Pin important messages to highlight key offers and updates.

Include a Call to Action in some posts. The pinned post and other content should feature a direct call to action (e.g., “Subscribe to the channel to stay updated!” with a clickable link).

Write engaging and useful content so potential subscribers can see the value and are more likely to subscribe. Format your posts in a clear and easy-to-read style. Analyze which posts get more likes and shares, and replicate their success. I talk more about content in tgcourse.com.
